Upgrade failed — no wait, what?

My blog’s look had been getting on a bit, so I decided to upgrade. I saw this neat theme on a theme site and decided to give it a go. Lo and behold, it didn’t work. Said something about illegal functions or failing to call something. So I figured it was due to the fact that my old version of WordPress, 2.0.6 was the culprit.

What to do? Upgrade WordPress! Of course, through my own inteptitude, I failed to realise that as I used wget to download the “latest.tar.gz” file from wordpress.org, that wget was actually saving this file to “latest.tar.gz.4″ because I already had other “latest.tar.gz” files in the directory. What followed was about half an hour of updating and re-updating, deleting, moving and copying of files, trying to figure out why on earth my WordPress wasn’t upgrading, until I realised that I was trying to ‘update’ my currently installed WordPress with the exact same version all over again!

Anyway, that’s done now, and you can see the result. I think this theme reflects my current lifestyle. Maybe I put too much thought into it.

The database upgrade seems to have borked all the newline characters in my posts — or maybe it’s the theme. Ah well.
